BLOWN OUT!
Today the wind was so strong, we didn't even go to launch. Instead, GW called a meeting here at the resort every hour until it was obvious that a task could not be called. Meanwhile, I got to know my new digital camera, so here are some pictures of us and other things....

WILDLIFE
Horses

First, there were the ducks, waddling across the road near the LZ. Then, outside our room appeared a bunch of goats. There were horses as well looking west from our room. Right outside our room, in the roof of the next building, there is a Peregrin Falcon nest with a baby bird in it. The little bird makes quite a racket when it's hungry! Later, he flew out of the nest so we could get a better view. Then we spotted this really strange bit of wildlife trying to throw a party (definition of 'wildlife').

HOT SPRINGS

We explored the Area around the resort, and found the hot springs that heat the pool. Unfortunately, they are not currently being brought to any form of tub or pool for hot water soaking. There was a really hot boiling area where the water first came out of the ground, then it meandered through the grass in the field.

FLORA

There were some really cool flowers and grasses behind the fence by the resort - some yarrow, and some other small purple flowers I don't know the name of.

HARDWARE

Just the house and barn behind the resort were worth taking pictures of, as well as the geyser they call "Old Perpetual."

BACK TO LAUNCH
Red Bull

When the day was finally called off, we all headed to Black Cap mountain again for the evening glass-off. It was a bit windy at launch when we first arrived, but soon we were all getting off the hill without incident, including Mark Ferguson. I flew Norma ( Alan Bradley's sweetheart) in Lee Kaiser's Duet 2 from Airwave. Nice glider, but we didn't like it as much as the Taxi, even though it had some great trimmers so you can go FAST!

The best view was back at launch during the sunset, and there must have been over sixty gliders in the air at the same time! Too many to fit into the camera lens! Othar was in fine shape in his Red Bull sponsored FireBird glider.

Hope tomorrow will be better...
