Site Intro Clinic
Are you a visiting pilot? Perhaps you are new to the area? Maybe you have just completed your P2 certification, and are wondeering where you can go spread your newfound wings.
The Santa Barbara Site
Introduction Clinic is the perfect next step. In this four hour clinic,
you will be introduced to the popular flying sites in Santa Barbara.
We will discuss the local weather conditions
that make our environment so conducive to flying on almost any day of
the year. We will also be looking at the specific weather reports and
resources that give us the indications that it will be flyable today,
and which launch it will be best to go to.
We will drive to the local launches and
landing zones and discuss the unique characteristics of each. Mountain Launches may
include the Skyport, the Alternator, the VOR,
the Brotherhood, the Backside and West La Cumbre. We will visit and discuss
local landing zones and their approaches including Parma Park, Robin's
Field, Cieneguitas, the "T", St. Mary's, and other possible
places available to land safely at. Coastal ridge soaring sites may include Bates, Wilcox, and More Mesa.
 Also included will be local do's and dont's
that are specific to flying in this area, as we are trying to maintain
goodwill in the community. We have no formal complaints against us on
record here, and we aim to keep it that way.
Do you have a hill near your house you're
thinking of pioneering? We will cover some of the fundamentals to be aware
of when flying a new site for the first time.
The day will finish (weather permitting)
with a flight off the Alternator launch (3760 ft msl), out around the
West Bowl to Cieneguitas LZ (400 ft msl). This flight is the most appropriate
and most popular first flight of P2 graduates, as well as attracting the
local talent out for a few circles in lift. The views of Santa Barbara,
the Channel Islands, and the Santa Ynez range are magnificent, and the flight will
likely be a memorable entry in your logbook.
A single site intro is available, covering one landing zone and launch for pilots wanting guidance at a specific flying site. Please reserve well in advance to make sure we have space to accomodate you.

Prerequisites:
- USHGA P2 certification with
a minimum of 50 flights.
- Ability to perform smooth
transitions into flight and landings including side hill launches in
differing winds.
- Ability to perform spot
landings every time.
- Appropriate certified equipment
including wing, harness, reserve parachute, helmet, radio and speed
system.
- Strong safety awareness
and respect for flying.
