Flying X-C is just about every paraglider pilots dream. Our clinic will prepare you for the adventure of a lifetime! This clinic includes the following topics:

Choosing X-C Routes
Through our ground school, on-site analysis, one-on-one thermal coaching and in-flight instruction, you will begin to connect the dots to your next thermal on glide. Finding that second thermal is the key to cross-country flying. Once you have found your second and managed to climb back up to cloudbase, you are on your way to a cross-country adventure.
Mindful of the information we learned about sectionals, FAR 103 regulations, coring thermals, thermal etiquette and identifying appropriate landing zones, you will have the confidence to proceed great distances with pleasing views anywhere this sport takes you.

Maneuvers and Reserve Class
We will conducting a ground school review of maneuvers and reserve information in preparation for the turbulent thermic conditions that we may encounter. We will give you tools to prevent a majority of collapses in the first place and when they do occur, you will be able to respond appropriately to relieve the situation.
We will review assymetrics, frontals, big ears, tweeking the A risers, identifying the stabillo, B-line stalls, deep stalls, spirals, spins, full stalls and cravattes as well as when and how to throw your reserve parachute.

Simulator Work
Here we'll have an opportunity to make harness and speedbar adjustments as well as looking at our flying posture. We will review the maneuvers and reserve toss sequence as well.

Landing Approaches
Many pilots exploring cross-county flying for the first time realize that their ability to spot land in an unfamiliar and small landing zone adds undue stress to the prospect of leaving the nest. We will review ways to identify good landing zones from the air and set up a safe approach based on winds and thermic conditions that will put you on your intended target.

Site Analysis
Upon reaching our intended takeoff, we will gather all of the information we need to safely take off. We'll identify site hazards, understand thermal cycles and be able to judge when it is most appropriate to launch. We will set up a flight plan that will including flying over house thermals, landing at the main landing zone as well as identifying alternate landing zones.

Competition Flying
Your newly found love for cross-country may lead you into exploring competition flying. We will take a look at how different competitions are run. We will educate you about launch windows, turn points, speed to fly, goal lines and how to set up your GPS. We will look at strategies to get the most out of competition flying.

Mountain Flying Gear
The right gear can make the difference between getting up in the thermal or having a long walk. It can be the difference in knowing where you are and relaying the right information to your chase crew or not. Alternator Map - Click Here for Full ViewWe'll look at the appropriate gear to always have on board for possible situations. We will take a thorough look at our varios and GPSs and how to make the most out of the information they tell us.

Maps
The ability of a pilot to read and understand maps is crucial for X-C flying. We will be looking a conventional maps as well as topographic maps in order to plan our cross-country route.
We will also look at sectionals and be able to understand where the FAA will and won't allow us to fly. We will make responsible choices in selecting our cross-country routes to ensure good relations with aviation authorities. We will also review FAR 103 as it pertains to ultra-light aircraft guidelines.
If you have used a GPS on one of your recent soaring flights, we can download your track log and overlay it onto a topo map to see where the thermals were being produced.
