The launch consists of a two-tone carpeted area large enough for 20 or so gliders to lay out. We actually laid out in the grass on the left side of the carpeted area, and launched easily from there! The east side of the canyon where the launch site is located basks in the morning sun until the cycles are coming up the cliffs straight into the layout area. There is a constant parade of pilots launching, student, expert and tandems, and some really entertaining techniques were to be seen! The canyon has two levels, one low where the launch is, and an upper rock ridge about a kilometer behind the front bench, running almost the entire length of the canyon. Usually the pilots can climb out from the first bench, and transition back to the ridge, and get really high. Today, the clouds were obscuring the back ridge, so we flew up and down the valley on the front bench, getting our butts kicked in the strong spring thermals. The LZ is huge, right in front of launch, marked with large circles for easy view. Our lunch was already prepared by Pauline when Dick and I landed, the last in our group. Two or three paragliding 'boutiques' are adjacent to the LZ, as is an ample supply of beer in the patio. Real civilized!
