Seleve and Plaine Joux
Geneva behind the four stooges!
From the airport, Dick Jackson, Don Freudenthal and I went for a delicious latte at a hotel along the shores of Lake Geneva. After picking up Hans, we headed for the nearby site, Seleve. The local club maintains the landing zone and a paragliding equipment shop. The ridge where we launch is facing Geneva, looking down on the airport where we had touched down only a short time ago.
Our first flight in France was about an hour of smooth, boaty air working light thermals coming up the cliff face to just over launch.

The Waterfall
Flying out after Don and Dick, I found a light bubble over the LZ and worked it back up for awhile, way out in the middle of the flats where I could just enjoy the views. The flight actually originates in France, but the LZ is in Switzerland!
That night we stayed in Chamonix, where we dined at an incredible restaurant that is one of Dick and Pauline's favorites. There was too much wind the next morning to do the high launches over Chamonix, so we went down the valley to Plaine Joux.
This site is almost always flyable due to its SW facing slope and protecting mountains surrounding it. We took two extended sled rides, as the lift was quite light, then took a beer break in the restaurant at the LZ. Soon we noticed that it was heating up a bit, so we headed back up for another flight. This time we got a taste of lift, but you had to hold onto it up high, and we had to get a fourth flight before we really got connected to the place.
The turnaround is really easy, and the winding road to launch is beautiful, carving through the lush French countryside. The landing zone is huge, a long strip of lush green grass. The french really take their flying seriously!
