Welcome
to one of the few non-profit parks in the United States. Elings Park is
solely supported through the contributions and day use fees of individuals
and grant-making institutions. It is not a city, county, state or federal
park.
This beautiful park is 230 acres of breath
taking views, sports fields, youth camps, hiking and biking trails, memorial
walks and picnic venues that welcomes over 170,000 visitors each year.
We are glad you are among them today.
The section of the park where hang gliding
and paragliding lifts off has been called the "Jesuit Property"
because the Jesuits owned the land for many years, leasing it to the Las
Positas Friendship Park Foundation in 1994. Foot launched flight has thrived
here for over 29 years, after the first plastic and bamboo hang gliders
flew down the hill in the early seventies.
In 1998, Virgil Elings took his first flight
off the top of this hill in a paraglider, and a few months later, the
park was renamed in honor of his $1.5 million donation to help the park
buy this land from the Jesuits (see article).
Las Positas Friendship Park, now known as
Elings Park was a success from its inception. Once a landfill and dump,
just a pool of waste and rumpled ground, the land was reclaimed and remolded
into the exquisite public park that we all enjoy today. The
park fits the philosophy of many in the community who treasure preservation
of land and recreation for youths and families.

Park, or to find out how you can help support this wonderful community
