Forward Launching a Powered ParagliderPERFORMED IN LOW-WIND OR NO-WIND CONDITIONSThe following pictures demonstrate the "Forward Launch" method, and ARE NOT intended to be used as instructions for training. You should always receive professional instruction before flying a motorized paraglider. |
| After a careful pre-flight inspection of all the equipment, the glider is laid out on the ground so that it can be pulled directly into the wind. The risers (lines) are attached to the caribiners on the pilot's harness. The DK Whisper engine is warmed up and idling. The pilot is concentrating on the wind in his face, the controls in his hands, and the impending lunge forward. | ![]() |

With a hard pulling forward drive, the pilot causes the glider to begin to inflate and rise off the ground. |
| The glider (canopy) continues to rise up to an overhead position. The pilot may be making slight side-stepping motions to keep the canopy coming up straight and evenly. | ![]() |

The canopy is now directly overhead. The pilot looks upwards and visually checks that the inflation is even, and the lines not tangled. He continues to move forward, and uses a combination of side-step and brake line application to keep the glider flying level. When the decision to "GO" is made, full throttle is applied, and aggressive forward movement continues. |
| The glider soon begins to develop more lift, and literally pulls the pilot right off the ground. The pilot maintains full directional control by steering with the brake lines. Rate of climb and rate of descent is controlled by the throttle. When comfortably airborne, the pilot sits into the seat and pops down the foot rests for the ultimate LAZ-Z-BOY chair. | ![]() |
