Unfortunately, accidents happen. Many times the incident can be avoided by diligent attention to safety guidelines, but these vary with every pilot. Each person has his/her own parameters of safety and what they are comfortable with. What we need to do is establish a system of safety, and that we make an agreement with ourselves to abide by this system, whatever it is. Advanced pilots will certainly have a different set of rules for themselves than a novice pilot will. New and novice students would be best served by flying with their instructor or experienced pilots until a solid system is established. These reports and discussions are presented to help everyone continue to learn from the experiences of others, and to constantly question their own perception of how much of a commitment to safety they are willing to make for themselves.
