Volunteer to Help!
US Paragliding National Championships, 2002

Whether you have a few hours, days or the full week, we need your help! Take the time to give to paragliding and take away a great, fun experience. We need your support to make this event all that it can be! So Volunteer! Call Lee Anne at 805-965-3733 or email leeanne@flyaboveall.com

Believe it or not the 2002 National Paragliding Championships (9/20 - 9/28) are fast approaching. Our plans to make this one of the most exciting PG National Championships in Paragliding History are well on their way. We have chosen the best flying site in the US (Owens Valley in the fall) and have some great events planned; such as a private party at Keough Hot Springs and Spa and panel discussions on the flying topics that mean the most to you!

We know how important our volunteers will be to making this event a huge success and we intend to show it. All volunteers will receive a free 2002 Nationals T-shirt, and free admission to all the events.

Volunteers will also have the first opportunity (limited time offer) to reserve their accommodations at Meet Head Quarters. The White Mountain Research Station will be our center. They have four separate dormitories available to us during the meet. You will be set for the entire event (Check-in evening of 9/20 - 9/28 1:00 pm check-out) for a mere $120 for a bed or $200 for a bed, breakfast and a bag lunch. Space is limited and will certainly go fast since most hotels will cost $69+/night so sign up now.

Volunteer Opportunities Include:

  • Retrieve Drivers (some vehicles will be provided by the comp. but let me know if you'd like to use your own 4WD as well). I cannot imagine a better learning environment than being in a retrieve vehicle that just picked up one of the top pilots. You will not need to prompt them very hard to spill the details that made their flight.
  • Retrieve Coordinator - If you are a detailed oriented, multi-tasker then we need you. With 100 pilots and at least 7 retrieve vehicles there must be a control center. This amazing volunteer will be in regular contact with the drivers and the pilots - helping them to find each other and getting back to meet head quarters in the most efficient way.
  • Launch Director and Launch Crew - Coordinate pilots launching area and timing to ensure safety.
  • Goal Crew - Assist with communications and safety. Not to worry, you will have no scoring responsibilities as this is a GPS scored meet.
  • Event Coordinator - If you are the kind of person that likes to see all the pieces come together, then you're perfect for this position. I know there will be a million last minute questions before each party or event, and I'm sure they'll need to be answered while I am in the air. With all the files in hand you will have the power of omniscience - please be a benign ruler.
  • Raffle Crew or silent auction (TBD) - Natural salesperson? Help sell the tickets and hand out the prizes that will fund the fun at the Nationals.
  • Registration Staff - Make certain each competitor has all the paperwork and has received their Glider number.

Thanks in advance for your help!
